About us

Brilliant Fish

Brilliant Fish promotes greater use of local produce and locally caught sustainable fish, develops understanding of healthy local ingredients and encourages trading at farmers markets.

We put on cookery demonstrations at events and community festivals and teach cookery skills with particular reference to healthy eating, sustainability, and the local economy.

In partnership with: community groups, parish and town councils, primary schools and special needs groups within Cornwall and Devon we are always looking to develop opportunities and projects.

Our educational projects include:

  • Cookery workshops and classes held in community centres and parish halls
  • Cooking sessions and visits for rural primary schools
  • Self directed cooking with young people
  • Development of workshops with special needs groups
  • Cookery demonstrations at festivals, agricultural shows and historic houses.
The educational projects are delivered by qualified tutors supported by volunteers who have the opportunity of training in food hygiene and other relevant courses.

Felicity Sylvester has worked as a tutor on the Petroc College “Tipping the Scales” project. She has worked with over 300 people in cookery classes and demonstrations for 4 to 86 year olds in ten community venues in North Devon: Holsworthy, Shebbear, Westward Ho!, Bideford, Appledore, Fremington, Tavistock, Pilton and Whiddon Valley, Barnstaple and South Molton.

Appledore Sustainable Fish held its Annual General Meeting on Monday 21 November in Appledore Social Club. We looked at the future of local fishing and food. The meeting was short and businesslike followed by drinks in the Club’s small bar and Gail’s delicious salt cod fish cakes.
